Dental Implants

Dental implant treatment is one of the treatment types applied when the patients have a missing tooth in their jaw. As it is known, patients with missing teeth may encounter some problems when using dentures. Although dentures are easy to fit and remove, dental implants do not offer such a functionality. Thanks to dental implants, the implant is placed in the patient’s jawbone with a series of operations and the missing tooth problem is overcome.

What is Dental Implant?

The dental implant screw is produced from premium quality metal. It is placed in the patient’s jaw in order to perform a similar function around the root of the missing tooth. Over time, the jawbone grows around the implant and helps it stay in place. An artificial tooth is then prepared and attached to the metal piece in place of the gap left by the missing tooth. This tooth is specially prepared based on the size and shape of the other teeth. Besides, in dental implant treatments, the color of the artificial tooth must match the tone of the patient’s original teeth.

Dental Implant Treatment

The dental implant application secures the dental bridge or dentures in place. Dental implant treatment can be applied to patients with one or more missing teeth in the jawbone. In general, in order to benefit from the implant treatment, the patient should have the following features:

  • The patient’s jawbone must be fully developed and healthy.

  • Before the treatment, the patient should not have any gingival disease.

  • In order to avoid problems after the treatment, there should be no negativities affecting bone healing.

How is Dental Implant Applied?

Dental implant operation might take a long time. In dental implant treatment, which usually lasts for one or several months, a series of minor operations are performed on the patient’s jawbone. Today, dental implant treatment is applied as follows:

  • First of all, the condition of the patient’s jawbone is observed using x-ray and scan images within the scope of the examination.

  • After the procedure, the dental implant compatible with the patient’s jawbone is placed.

  • Anesthesia is applied to prevent pain during the surgery.

  • It requires a waiting period of several months in order for bone to grow on the dental implant.

  • And, the final procedure is to take a mouth mold and prepare the artificial teeth to be placed on the implant.
