You flew home from Antalya with a new smile. The veneers or zirconia crowns look great in the mirror, and now daily life starts again in Brussels, Liège, Namur or Charleroi. Many patients ask the same question at this point: who looks after my new teeth now that I am back in Belgium?
The answer is that you are not on your own. D-Care Belgium, our clinic in Ixelles, Brussels, sees D-Care Turkey patients for check-ups and aftercare, and works with the team in Side that planned and made your restorations. This guide explains how to care for veneers and crowns at home, what is normal in the first weeks, which signs deserve a check-up, and how follow-up between Belgium and Turkey works.
Veneers and crowns: what you are looking after
Veneers are thin ceramic shells bonded to the front surface of teeth. Crowns cover the whole tooth. Zirconia crowns are strong and tooth-coloured; porcelain or E-max veneers are often chosen for front teeth because of their translucency. Whatever was chosen for you after examination and digital scanning, the ceramic itself does not decay, but the natural tooth underneath and the gum around it still can. Good aftercare is mostly about protecting those two things.
The first weeks at home: what is normal
Mild sensitivity to cold or hot drinks for a few days to a few weeks, especially when teeth were prepared for crowns.
A slightly new feeling in the bite or in speech during the first days, while tongue and lips adapt.
Gums that look a little irritated around the edges at first and settle with careful cleaning.
These usually fade gradually. If sensitivity gets stronger rather than weaker, or one tooth starts to ache, have it checked rather than waiting.
Daily care for veneers and zirconia crowns
Brush twice a day with a soft toothbrush and a non-abrasive fluoride toothpaste. Very abrasive whitening pastes can dull glazed surfaces over time.
Clean between your teeth every day with floss or interdental brushes in the size your dentist recommends. The gum line at the edge of a veneer or crown is where problems usually start.
Do not use your teeth as tools: no opening packaging, biting nails or chewing pens.
Be careful with very hard foods such as ice cubes, hard sweets or bone fragments.
Watch staining at the edges: coffee, tea and red wine stain natural teeth more than ceramics, but margins and neighbouring teeth can still discolour. Rinsing with water helps.
Protect against grinding: if you clench or grind (bruxism), wear the night guard you were given or ask for one. Grinding is a common cause of chipped ceramics.
Signs that you should book a check-up
Contact us if you notice any of the following:
A veneer or crown that feels loose, moves or comes off. Keep it in a clean container and bring it with you; do not glue it back yourself.
A chip, crack or rough edge.
Bleeding, swelling or persistent redness of the gum around a restoration.
A high spot in the bite, or pain when chewing on one tooth.
Sensitivity or pain that increases over time, or a bad taste around one tooth.
Most of these are easier to deal with early. In Ixelles we can examine the area, take X-rays where indicated and decide together with the team in Turkey on the next step. Any treatment decision is made after this examination and imaging, never on a photo alone.
Follow-up in Brussels: how D-Care Belgium supports you
D-Care Belgium in Ixelles, Brussels is the Belgian side of the same team. For patients treated in Side, it offers:
Routine check-ups of veneers, crowns and gums, usually every six months or as your dentist advises.
Professional cleaning adapted to ceramic restorations.
Assessment of problems such as a loose crown, a chipped edge or gum inflammation, close to home.
Coordination with Side: findings in Brussels are shared with Dr. Öznur Yedek and our prosthodontist Çisel, who planned your restorations, so decisions are based on your full treatment history.
Planning a return visit if a restoration needs to be adjusted or remade in Turkey, so that any trip is organised around a clear plan.
For patients from Brussels and Wallonia, this means aftercare in French or English, a short trip from home, with people who know your case.
How Turkey and Belgium work together
At D-Care Turkey in Side, restorations are planned with an intraoral scanner and checked for fit, bite and appearance before you fly home. That digital record matters later: if a crown chips years from now, the original design can help plan a replacement. When you visit Ixelles, the dentist compares what they see with your treatment records, and the two clinics agree on whether the issue can be handled in Brussels or during your next visit to Side. If a return trip is needed, our TÜRSAB-licensed partner agency can arrange clinic, hotel and airport transfers and a stay at partner hotels such as Side Moon Palace or Side Amour Hotel.
Frequently asked questions
How long do veneers and zirconia crowns last?
It depends on your bite, habits, gum health and daily hygiene. Regular check-ups and a night guard if you grind help them last longer. No dentist can honestly promise a fixed number of years.
Can I whiten my veneers or crowns?
No. Ceramics do not respond to whitening. If you want to whiten your natural teeth, discuss it with your dentist first, because the colour of the restorations will not change.
Do I need to fly back to Turkey for every problem?
No. Many questions can be assessed and handled at D-Care Belgium in Ixelles. A return to Side is planned only when the joint assessment shows it is necessary.
My veneer came off. What should I do?
Keep it safe, avoid chewing on that side and contact us on WhatsApp to arrange an examination as soon as possible.
