Your fixed teeth are in place, the flight home is behind you, and everyday life in Brussels or Wallonia has resumed. At this stage, one question comes up again and again: how do I look after this bridge so that it lasts? Implants cannot decay like natural teeth, but the gum and bone around them can become inflamed if plaque is left behind. Good daily habits and regular professional maintenance make a real difference — and you do not have to manage this alone. Our clinic D-Care Belgium in Ixelles, Brussels, is there for examinations and follow-up after your treatment in Turkey.
Why an implant bridge needs a different cleaning routine
A full-arch bridge (All-on-4, All-on-6 or a Toronto-type prosthesis) is fixed on implants and a supporting framework — at D-Care, a titanium bar, with zirconia crowns on Toronto designs.
Food and plaque collect in the space between the bridge and the gum, where an ordinary toothbrush does not reach well.
Plaque left around implants can cause peri-implant mucositis (inflammation of the soft tissue). If it is not treated, it may progress to peri-implantitis, with bone loss around the implant.
The encouraging part: mucositis is generally reversible when it is detected and managed early.
Your daily home-care routine
Brush twice a day with a soft manual or electric toothbrush, angling the bristles towards the gum line and the junction with the bridge.
Choose a low-abrasive toothpaste: highly abrasive whitening pastes can dull the surface of the prosthesis over time.
Once a day, clean under the bridge with interdental brushes in the size your dentist recommends, or with super-floss threaded under the framework.
A water flosser (oral irrigator) helps many patients rinse debris from under the bridge. It complements brushing; it does not replace it.
Look at your gums in the mirror: pink and firm is reassuring; redness, swelling or bleeding deserves attention.
If you were advised to wear a night guard because you clench or grind your teeth, wear it consistently — it protects both the bridge and the implants.
The first months back in Belgium
With a temporary bridge, gum and bone continue to remodel during healing, so the space under the bridge can change slightly.
Follow the diet and hygiene instructions you received before leaving Side, and avoid very hard foods on a temporary prosthesis.
Avoid smoking, or reduce it as much as you can: smoking is a well-known risk factor for implant complications.
Keep your treatment documents (implant system, X-rays, prosthesis plan) together — they help both our teams in Side and Ixelles follow your case.
Professional maintenance: what happens at a check-up
A review of your cleaning technique and, if needed, new cleaning aids adapted to your bridge.
An examination of the gum around each implant.
A check of your bite, the prosthesis and its components.
X-rays when the dentist considers them necessary, to compare bone levels with earlier images.
Professional cleaning. On screw-retained bridges, the clinician may decide to remove the prosthesis temporarily to clean it and the implant area thoroughly.
How often should this happen? It is individual. Many implant patients are seen about every six months, sometimes more often in case of previous gum disease, smoking or diabetes. Your dentist sets the right interval after examining you.
Follow-up in Ixelles: you are not alone after Turkey
D-Care Belgium, our clinic in Ixelles, Brussels, exists so that your care does not stop at the airport. For patients living in Brussels and Wallonia, it means:
Examinations and post-treatment check-ups close to home, without planning a new trip for every question.
Direct coordination with Dr. Öznur Yedek and the surgical and prosthetic team in Side, based on your treatment records and intraoral scans.
A clear path when something feels wrong: sore gums, a chipped tooth or a change in your bite can be assessed in Brussels, and any work needed in Turkey can be planned together with your next visit.
Any treatment decision is always made after a clinical examination and, where needed, imaging.
Warning signs: contact us without waiting
Bleeding or swelling of the gum around an implant that lasts more than a few days.
Pus, a bad taste or persistent bad breath despite good cleaning.
A bridge that feels loose, clicks or moves.
Pain when biting, or a sudden change in how your teeth meet.
A cracked or chipped tooth on the prosthesis.
These signs do not always mean a serious problem, but they should be checked early: early care is usually simpler care.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to remove my All-on-4 bridge to clean it? No. Daily cleaning is done with the bridge in place. Removing a screw-retained bridge is a professional step, carried out by the dentist at a maintenance visit when indicated.
Is a water flosser enough on its own? It is a useful addition, but most patients still need a toothbrush plus interdental brushes or super-floss. Your dentist will show you what suits your bridge.
How often should I have a check-up? Often around every six months, but the interval is personal and decided after examination.
Can I have my check-ups in Brussels instead of flying to Turkey? Yes. Routine examinations and follow-up can take place at D-Care Belgium in Ixelles, in coordination with our team in Side.
