Loose Implant Crown After Treatment in Turkey? What to Do in Brussels
Medically reviewed by Dr. Öznur Yedek, MSc — D-Care Turkey, Side / Antalya. Last updated: October 2026.
You had implants placed in Turkey, you are back home in Belgium, and one day you notice that a crown moves slightly when you bite or brush. It is unsettling, especially when your dentist seems far away. The good news: a loose implant crown is a common and usually manageable problem, and you do not have to face it alone. D-Care Belgium, our clinic in Ixelles, Brussels, exists precisely for moments like this.
Is it the crown or the implant that moves?
This is the key question, and it can only be answered with an examination and, usually, an X-ray. Broadly, there are two very different situations:
The crown or abutment is loose: the implant itself is still firmly anchored in the bone. This is the most frequent case and is often repairable.
The implant itself is mobile: this may mean the bone did not integrate around it, or that bone has been lost. It is less common and needs a careful assessment and treatment plan.
From the outside, both can feel the same. That is why we never give a diagnosis from a message or a photo alone.
Common reasons an implant crown becomes loose
Screw loosening: many implant crowns are held by a small screw. Chewing forces can gradually loosen it, especially in the first months.
Cement failure: on cemented crowns, the cement can wash out or break down over time.
Bite overload: a crown that is slightly too high, or night-time teeth grinding (bruxism), puts extra stress on the screw and components.
A fractured component: rarely, a screw, an abutment or the ceramic itself can crack.
Inflammation around the implant: in more advanced stages, gum and bone problems (peri-implantitis) can affect implant stability.
What to do right away
Do not ignore it: a crown that keeps moving can damage the screw thread or the components and make the repair more complex.
Chew on the other side: avoid hard or sticky food on that side, such as nuts, crusty bread, toffee or chewing gum.
Keep the area clean: brush gently and keep using interdental brushes or a water flosser as usual.
Never glue it yourself: do not use household glue and do not try to tighten anything. This can harm the gum and the implant parts.
If the crown comes out: keep it in a small clean box and bring it to your appointment.
Send us a message: a short description and, if possible, a photo on WhatsApp help us organise the right appointment. They do not replace the examination.
Seek urgent care if you have swelling, fever, pus, or pain that is getting worse.
How D-Care Belgium in Ixelles helps
Many patients treated in Turkey worry that once they are home, nobody will take responsibility. Our model is designed to avoid exactly that: treatment at our clinic in Side / Antalya, examination and post-treatment follow-up in Ixelles, Brussels, and one team that shares your records.
At your appointment in Ixelles, the visit typically includes:
A clinical examination of the crown, the gum and your bite.
An X-ray, when needed, to check the implant and the surrounding bone.
A check for signs of night grinding and whether a night guard would help.
Coordination with your treating team in Side, who hold your implant details, digital scans and treatment records.
Depending on the findings, a simple problem may be handled as part of your follow-up, or a plan is made together with the team in Turkey, for example new components or a new crown. The final decision is always made after the examination and imaging, never from a photo.
Why your treatment records matter
Implant systems use their own specific screws, abutments and tools. Knowing exactly which implant was placed saves time and avoids guesswork. At D-Care Turkey, your mouth is recorded digitally with an intraoral scanner, and your treatment information is kept so it can be shared with the Ixelles team when you need follow-up. Keep your own treatment documents as well; they are useful for any dentist who sees you.
How to prevent it from happening again
Attend regular check-ups in Brussels, so you do not need to fly for routine controls.
Wear a night guard if you grind or clench your teeth.
Do not use your implant teeth to open packaging or crack nuts.
Keep up daily hygiene around your implants, including cleaning between the teeth.
Report early signs quickly: a click, a slight movement, food getting trapped or a bite that feels different.
FAQ: loose implant crown after treatment in Turkey
Is a loose implant crown an emergency?
Usually it is not a medical emergency, but it should be checked soon, ideally within days rather than weeks. Swelling, fever or increasing pain need prompt care.
Does a loose crown mean the implant has failed?
Not necessarily. In many cases the implant is stable and only the crown, screw or cement is involved. Only an examination and an X-ray can tell.
Do I have to fly back to Turkey?
Not automatically. The first step is an examination in Ixelles. Whether further treatment is done in Brussels or in Side depends on the findings and is planned with you.
Can I just send a photo?
A photo helps us prepare, but a diagnosis requires an in-person examination.
